This might sounds like a stupid question...but how do I adjust my rear drums to be just dragging slightly with a Suregrip? I had both wheels off the floor and there was slight drag, but as both wheels are turning how do I know which drum is adjusted correctly? It's a '66 and has the spring that rides the adjuster (no self adjuster) and I'm finding I can only adjust them with the drum off as the spring needs to be lifted to turn the adjuster. I thought it must be the wrong spring but it shows this in the FSM. Should I just open the adjuster until I can just squeeze the drum back on and then see if both wheels still turn? Ignore the oil in the photo - this was taken before I fixed the axle leak - it's all clean and dry now.

I adjust them so you can just get the drums back on with the palm of your hands.
That's with No ridge in the drum. If there is one I remove it with a file or a flapdisk.
I just check them once every year or two.

Look wet, a leak or is it the picture?

The spring on top of the adjuster is to keep the adjuster from moving but you can rotate the adjuster from the slot in the back plate. It takes a little more force but you don't have to lift the spring. With the drum on, adjust the wheel until you can hear it dragging on the brake shoes.

Put the drum on. Turn the adjuster until it’s tight then back it off until you can get the drum off. Do both sides that way. Done!
