So I've degreased the backing plates to my 68 Super Bee. Under the grease the original finish seems to be red primer. Also I see white paint markings to lead me to believe this was how they came. The black is left over grease That didn't wash off ,not paint. I thought they came painted black or raw. Any thoughts?

Factory was black phosphate, on '69 at least. Some are having theirs black zinc plated. I used High Heat BBQ paint with nice results.

I looked a little closer and it looks like the white paint marks are under the red. I guess a P.O sprayed the red to stop rust or something at some point. I'm painting my axle housing and some other parts tomorrow so I'm trying to get these prepped. Thanks!

Hey! What's the paint code on that Bee? Looks like QQ1 in the photo. Nice! I'm just
painting my backing plates with a super glossy black urethane so they will clean easily.
I'm not building a show queen, so, "Close Enough". I dislike it when I'm at a cruise-night
or a show, and someone starts to critique a car. we're all lucky to have one of these cars
that start and drive!

House of Kolors HOK0403 Shimmerin 2. Four coats of Blue, cleared.. interfaced and then 2 more coats of their Klear, Still needs to be cut and buffed. It's just a BIT darker than B5.

Beautiful! Thanks for the pic. Now I know how to NOT cut myself to shreds on my exposed inner fender
edges! Very nice! (Except for all the snow)
