Had my car with the old 383 on the street and it stopped fine. put in the new 440, car wont stop as good. when the 383 was in it if you punched the brakes it would stop perfect. so i jacked up car, checked front wheels, helper put foot on brake, passenger brakes hold, do the same to the driver side and the wheel spins free as if the brake isnt being pushed. no grab. what would cause this? also, i had a wheel chock behind my driver side front wheel a few weeks back and backed over it. would that cause an issue to the brakes grabbing>? specs on car below. i dont know how to do a signature on this site yet.

Thanks

doug

Does the driver's side brake not have anymore adjustment?

If the chock came up and pinched a line or hose, maybe. take the drums off and LIGHTLY apply the brake. This will tell you if you're getting anything through the lines. Your shoes may be shot also.

Sounds like a bad brake hose to me. Is the pedal good and hard?

try to bleed the brakes in that corner.easyest way to see if you are getting fluid presure.if so,look to mechanical issues inside the drum.

i will check it out and reply back with an out come. the brakes were rebuilt completely with new everything in 2011 and have had about 50 miles on the car since. the brakes were in great shape...i will keep you posted

Sounds more like the wheel cylinder is stuck on the driver's side. I have had this happen before. Simply disassembled, wiped everything down, then reassembled. If you are uneasy with that, then replace the wheel cylinder as a whole. They are rather inexpensive.

I agree with Dako. It sounds like a problem with the wheel cylinder on that side. You may be able to solve it by cleaning the cylinder and pistons but it's probably simplist just to put on a new wheel cylinder; they are as "cheap as chips" as my English friends say. Don't forget to bleed the brakes thoroughly and make the necessary adjustments to the shoes.

I know I had brake hoses go bad for no good reason and out of the blue. The line just blocked up one day while driving. Collapsed? blocked due to rubber? Don't know. Had to pull the line to find the problem.
