Dying seat belts

as some of you know , i am "in search of the illusive 70 b-body seat belts". i found some blue ones and need them black..(purple might be cool too)....ANYWAYYYYYYYYY....have any of you guyz dyed seat belts before? what all is involved and will they stay the color i dye them?

I personally haven't ever dyed any, but I think if the material doesn't have some kind of sealer or something on it, so the dye can soak in, that they could be dyed with just some regular fabric dye & it should last pretty well once it was completely dry... I think they are made from a polyester type thread, maybe requiring a polyester type dye, I'm not sure though... Good luck, Happy Easter & Happy Moparing

Give them a good cleaning first and let them dry, pressure wash them if you have to (only if they're really dirty) Dye wont last as long if it's sitting on any kind of dirt or grime. On a clean surface the dye will soak into the fabric changing it's color forever, only way to get it out is if it's still wet and you use a thinner or something on it. Also don't hold the can too close, if going black you'd probably have to do 3-6 maybe more light coats to get solid coverage, dye always comes out looking blotchy (at least any dye I've used)

Also help to do a few test sprays on some cardboard to see how it comes out because every can is different lol.

I was talking about liquid fabric dye, not the spray type, but it could work well also & cleaning would be a must, maybe even use some T.S.P.{Tri Sodium Phosphate} in hot water & wash thoroughly, then rinse with distilled water or something that won't contaminate the dye or paint, make sure it's absolutely dry...
