I grew up listing/watching the Orioles. Earl was the Man. No one in baseball could give it to the umps like Earl. Coached when the game was played by men who played like they needed the job, he probably wouldn't do well in the modern game with all the spoiled millionaires. RIP Earl, you were one of a kind.
Earl Weaver was the only manager I ever saw get thrown out of a game before the game even started. He was thrown out of the first game of a doubleheader and when he brought the lineup card out to the ump for the second game, he said "I hope you aren't going to call this game like you did the first one." The ump said "you won't be around to find out Earl, You're outta here.
RIP Mr Weaver and Stan "The Man" too.
As A Baltimore Oriole Fan Its Been A Pleasure To Listen To Earl Weaver Swear, Kick Dirt And Throw **** At The Refs! And Then Get Drunked Up And Shut His Car Off And Park It In The Middle Of I-695 Around Baltimore During The Night! He And Billy Martin Used To Go On Some Real Benders!
