What systems are you using, the threaded probe that goes into the water pump or the one that has the probe that slips into the radiator between the fins and what temp settings?

I got dual spal fans, 11 inch each, and the sensor for the fans is located in the radiator. I had a 3/8 pipe thread welded in and located it there. All works well, but someone else might have a better suggestion.

Most of the ones I have found have the probe that screws into the water pump housing but I would think that if it reads 200 then it should still work..I had heard that the one with the thin tube that slides into the fins on the radiator work well too.

I do not use the sensor.I have 2 electric fans on separate switches so that if one craps out.I still have one to limp home with:pimp3:

I am going to run this one in addition to my belt driven fan, just an extra.

If its just extra cooling, can you just run it from a relay and switch? That's how mine are.... Twin 10" fans.

You would just have to make sure that they were turned off when you got out of the car.

Not if they are powered by the key on circut:blob1:

I like the key idea.....but I want to run it through a relay to protect the wiring.

I'm not a racer but I do have a fan that uses the small thin probe that slides in the fins as close to the tank as possible and it uses an adjustable relay that I have set for around 210 for traffic use, works fine. Automatically shuts off as soon as it cools down.

Got the relay at Oriley's for $15?

On my current 68 RR I have... www.HotronicsProducts.com , makes a good thermal fan temp. switch/sending unit that goes in the water pump, it's not cheap $79, also Perma-Cool, Be-Cool & www.MadElectronical.com , all have some decent thermal switches & relay systems, I built my own relay/harness switch system & have dual Perma-Cool fans 1) 16" 2950cfm pulling {w/9.8 amps draw} & 1) 13" 2650cfm aux. {w/8 amps draw} pusher fan for just in case or heavy traffic {on a 4 core down flow 22" alum rad.}, all with manual overrides & a nice clean waterproof Painless 4 switch panel & custom made aluminum box & mount, all my switches, pumps & all my electronics are on relays to reduce battery/high amperage draws & spikes, I also run a Proform 35gpm electric water pump {10-12amps draw} & 150gpm Aeromotive electric 15psi fuel pump {10-12amps draw} all on the same switch panel all with manual override/activation switches.... All with a 75amp Powermaster "Chrome" dual field alternator & electronic voltage regulator & a group 27/1000 cranking amp, passenger side "trunk mounted battery & box" & over-sized #4ga. grounding straps from engine to body, chassis to body & from the alternator housing to body/frame...

There's a guy on the turbo forums running 4 10" fans one on a sensor in the water pump and the other 3 off a relay switch, says his turboed 400 mopar block doesn't get above 200 and that's sitting in traffic.

Mine is an add on pusher fan. I use the normal fan and a shroud and put a pusher fan on the outside of the rad. I used a relay that has a hot feed to feed the fan with a fuse holder in the wiring but the power to the relay coil is key opperated so it only works with the key on and I wired it to a toggle switch as the only time I use it is hot days in traffic. Ron

I use a regular belt driven fan and a 11 inch electric with an on/off switch to use when in traffic or it is in the 90's. I also have a 9 inch mounted to the front of my trans cooler with a switch as well to cool it down because of the hugh stall. I rather have everything on a switch including the fuel pump because sensors and relays are a pain in the a** when they don't work for one reason or another.
