I'm going to switch to electric fans on my 440.

I want to turn the fans on with a simple thermo switch/ sensor . Most of the ones I see are 185 on 175 off or 210 on 185 off.

With the 185 on, that's fine, but then it would never shut off if I am running a 180 thermostat correct ? The thermostat is going to keep it at 180

And I just done like the idea of the 210 - 195 .

What are other people running ?

Man, that would be cool if the T-stat would maintain the engine coolant temperature! But, no the T-stat opens at its rated temperature. It's a minimum, it just goes up from there and stabilizes according to ambient temperature and cooling capacity of your system. It depends upon your preference and system cooling capacity as to where you control the fan.

Ideally, you need to drive down the highway at steady 45 or above w no fans on. See where engine temp stabilizes at after driving 30 minutes or so with no slowing below 45. Then get a thermostat trigger that will turn "off" fans 5-10 degrees above that. In stop n go traffic, the trigger will turn on fans 15 degrees above the turn off temp.

hmmmm ok... well I guess I will just try the 185 - 175 and see how the system works with that

If you're willing to do some serious research, there are sites out there where members have used Volvo temp switches, 1 for fan on and a separate for fan off. They come in many temps. I was able to keep my 496 cool in town w electric fans, but the metal, flat, shrouds blocked air at highway speeds. Even with vent holes n flaps in them. I would go up to 220 on the interstate. I am running ccw water pump w serpentine setup. I went to factory shroud and GM 19" nylon 11 blade fan and now at 112° outside temps, a/c on, 3 people in car up 7% grade for 10 miles at 2,700 RPM and engine didn't get above 191°.

Well got everything hooked up and installed. Fired it up and let the rad burb itself. The fans kicked on at 187 according to my inferred gun pointed right at the temp switch. They stayed on for about 3 mins before they shut off. Another 5 mins and the fans cycled again. Took it out for a drive and temp stayes aroubd 180ish going by my factory gauge. The fans stayed off while driving .

Now it is fairly cool here in Ontario right now only about 11c today . But so far seems to be working perfectly ... May get one more day into the 20s so hope to try it out then before next year .
