i posted earlier about light pulsating. i have 67 b bod with 75 440 .72 alternator and regulator. can someone give what readings should be on a meter at different points with ign on not running and ign on and running.and what points i should check and what readings should be.thanx Randy ps it has electricronic ignition

Ign on, engine off, readings at battery "+", alt "+" post, and relay should be all within what battery reads.

Engine running at idle, nothing on, all the above voltages should be about 13.5 or above, but not above 15 volts...and it should be steady

electronic ignition will have nothing to do with charging system

Ok guys i unpluged the regulator and the pulsating stopped. So what does that mean?

Sounds like a possible bad alternator. What you are getting is called ripple. By unplugging the regulator you are "turning off" the alternator. Tty another alternator

Is it charging steady, or does it fluctuate up and down. Hence the lights pulsing. Put a volt meter on it and watch the voltage. The lights are getting brighter and dimmer cause the voltage ia going up and down

with digital volt meter on battery and engine running it goes from 15 to 16 back and forth

OK IM SORRY.AT THE STARTER RELAY IT GOES BACK AND FORTH 15 -16.AT THE BATTERY ITS 14-15 AND AT THE ALTERNATOR BAT TERMINAL 14-15

Hmmm, something fishy going on. I would go over all the wiring and connections real good. I don't know why you wouldbhave 15 to 16 volts at the starter relay and be a volt off at the battery

first thing to check is good ground from eng to chassis.most common cause of pulsating lights.

OK today installed new reg. and new alt. grounds seem fine. all lights still pulsate.battery charging 14/15 volts. with key on both plugs going to ballast show 11volts .regulator plug shoes 11/12 volts on both wires in plug. ballast shows 11volts with one removed at a time. does this mean anything?

get yourself a wiring diagram and pull apart that eng harness.unless someone has bypassed the ballast you sould have about 12 volts on one side(in)and around 9 volts(out)on the other.something is wrong with your wiring.

with engine not running, you will get the same voltage on both sides of the ballast resistor.

Again, one more time here, stop checking and worrying about the ballast resistor..it has nothing to do with the charging system for charging the battery

Im just saying both plugs going to the ballast unpluged show 11 volt with key on and not running.and regulator unpluged both wires are showing 11 volts .is this normal?

if both wires to ballast & both wires to alt are 12v with key on, and all wires are "unplugged" then no, that's not normal.

what readings do you have when key is turned to "ACC" position?

dont have acc . i have a switch panel with toggle switch for on/off and push button to start

today i unpluged the bulkhead completly and with ign/toggle switch on engine not runningthe ammeter hand moves by turning on anything such as dome light, blinkers etc.i can see the ammeter with a mirror it still has factory looking blk wire coming and red wire going out they look clean and not melted i can feel them with my fingers and they feel tight and i know the black wire from alternator is not hooked to alt.
