Electronic Ignition schematic for points conversion.

Here's the schematic I used to get my 64 starting and running right. The previous owner had it basically wired like this but had installed a 5 pin ECU (for a dual ballast system) and the only way it would start is if you jumped the + side of the coil with 12 v. from the battery. He didn't use a kit but just junk yard parts. Note: the "start position" wire from the harness goes to the out side of the ballast resistor. As soon as you let off the key, the run side of the ign. switch provides power to the ballast.

Remember, this is for a 4 pin ECU only.
Also, a tip, the wires you see on the diagram are the ECU connectors and not what you see when you pull the connector and turn it over, the sockets will be backwards as you are looking at them.
Also, make sure the ECU case is grounded well through the fasteners. Sheet metal screws though drilled holes that don't tighten may not be suitable.

Oh I forgot to mention, @HALIFAXHOPS offers a great Electronic Ign. Diagnostic Manual that breaks down each pin on the ECU and all the distributor components so you can test it all with a multimeter. It's great information.
 
I have mine wired exactly like the diagram; and I still can't get any spark out of the new coil. I think the problem is that the brown wire (start) coming from the ignition isn't 12+ volts; it's only 11.5. The question is, how do I get the start wire voltage bumped up to 12+?

Basically impossible, as soon as you crank, the starter will pull your voltage down. That's not your problem.
 
In checking on some of the other posts on Electronic Ignition troubleshooting; they talked about having a good battery. Mines about 4 years old; going to check its output at a full charge.
 
RamCharger; You were right. I charged the battery up to 13.9 and still no spark from the new coil. Just finished checking the resistance on the coil wire. If I had any hair, I'd pull it out.
