Ladies,Gent's,
Attached are pictures of the engine I have to go with my 1968 runner(not orig) I'm wondering if anyone can give me background info?? Its supposed to be 68 mfg 383 slightly built. I have no idea of cam inside(need to figure it out). I think i'm going to take it to a "motor guy" to have it looked over??

I,m looking for est mfg date and "if" exhaust headers are correct?

Any help would be greatly appreciated,Joey

Excellent! I received this car with may loose parts, so i'm getting to the point of finding good surprises!!
The guy whom started this went to heaven so i'm continuing his work and it looks he did some good leg work.

Again,Thanks,Joey

As far as your engine dates, it looks like the block was cast on July 22, 1968.

Also, the "original" engine assembly date was November 6th, 1968.

This engine would NOT be correctly date coded for a '68 Road Runner (if that's what you are looking for?). It is for a 1969 model car, it looks like for a '69 Super Bee built at the Los Angeles assembly plant. Numbers are hard to read in photos, but I think that is what it shows.

Thanks,

I'm not looking for exact replacement because the drive line was missing when I got this project.
This is the engine that the previous owner found. I expect it will fit and run just fine and I am interested in a good driver. Thanks for the information that's some of what i was looking for. the vin stamped on the side is very hard to read even with a magnifier.

thanks,Joey

FWIW I think the 1968 to 1972 HP big block exhaust manifolds are the same dimensionally (head pipe location). So, the same exhaust pipes can be used. In other words, pipes in and for a ’68 B body will bolt up to any of these '68 to '72 HP exhaust manifolds.

Excellent, thank you guys for all the great information.
I figured they were for later models because I can't find it in the 68 parts catalog.
