I didn't have one on a 69 318 Satellite I had either.

maybe the battery has a ground to the frame and the block? ill have to go double check.

There were several of them on these cars when new and usually get disgarded during the first engine rebuild. They are a flat braided meat material. I believe they are repoed.

Humm no ground on my motor...I have solid motor mounts...

I don't know if the helps, but the ground strap on my 68' Coronet runs from the firewall to a rear bolt on the passenger side valve cover. It's about 4-5 inches long.

It should come off the head or an intake bolt to the firewall. Can't remember which but it shouldn't be from a valve cover bolt. Are you trying to make the car look correct? If so, maybe someone will chime in about that but adding other grounds from the block to the firewall or frame rail sure won't hurt if you don't care about correct looks....
