Are the mounts welded to the frame differently from big block to small block on a 66 belvedere, seems like the motor sits to the passenger side of the engine compartment but everything lines up with the engine and tranny mounts.

i know BB sit about 2" to passenger side to distribute weight and give enough room for steering and starter. pretty sure SB's are the same

So this looks right to you?

Yep, that looks right. Here is my GTX with 440. Centerline is to the right passenger side.

This is only my own thougts, haven't read it anywhere......
If "Ma" had decided to center the engine,it would have caused the rear axleshafts and axlehousing had to be unequalateral (right word? ) as the pinion not can be centered in the carrier. Maybe cost-savings ? If anyone know for sure, please "teach" us.

My recent 440 install replacing a 318 in my 67 Satellite looks just like moparlee's.

The mounts are actually welded to the 'K' member, or 'K' frame...which bolts (4 large bolts) to the front sub-frame of your car from the underside. When the car was assembled at the factory, the assembled motor, steering box/ linkage and lower control arms were all attached to the K frame and the car (unit body...yes, 'unit') was lowered onto it. The K frame is the same on the `66 cars, whether it came with that sweet Poly you have there or the big blocks. They all sit off towards the passenger side to allow steering box clearance, since it is mounted to the K frame as well.

Because of the Poly's external head dimensions/ design, it is actually wider at the top than other motors. You will be asked, more than once(!) what size that motor is if no markings are present. Enjoy!

I thouroughly appreciate your responses, had me scratching my head for awhile, cannot wait to get this thing on the road, had the motor dynoed but could not be there to hear it run. Thanks again.

Don't leave us hangin' like that...what was done to the motor and what were the dyno results?
