So if I have my 383 on a run stand to get it sorted out, what do I use to engage the starter to turn it over? It will ultimately be mated to an AT (don't have one yet). Do I get a flex plate and torque converter with ring gear to work with the starter? Will it run ok on the stand with that or should I get a flywheel for engine stand purposes?

Allot of guys use the fly wheel and bell from a stick car. I have seen a gutted 727 case and a converter sawed off to just use the front of it with the ring gear attached to the flex plate. What ever is easiest for you to get a hold of.

I designed my stand to accommodate the transmission either auto or manual. Most purchased stands use a flywheel and bell housing for a manual transmission. 440'

My stand incorporated a 727 as well.
