Engine pulley alignment

What do you do? I have a 440(540 stroker) and plan on using Elephant ears. To align the pulleys, do you shim them out to align or do you cut off the back side of the water pump housing the same thickness as the elephant ears to keep them aligned. Thanks Ron

mill the pump housing if you are using the bolt behind the pump type of ears.
