Engine test stand

Did anyone who was at Carlise see that stand were they had two engines on those test stands? Id like to run my engine before i put it in the car and im thinking of getting some angle iron and building one. I was talking to a fellow mopar guy and we were thinking i could take a old 727 and cut off the bell housing part and weld support brackets and for the front use a old K frame. Any thoughts?

Hi Steve!

I'm thinking that the time it takes to build one, you could have installed it in the car.

If you were building engines on a regular basis, then it would be worth the effort.

Yeah, why are you making it so difficult? Make bits to hold the engine, use your existing rad, and let her rip!!! Why do you want the tranny bits?

I'm really close to starting mine on my cheap test stand also. breaking in the cam on single outers. For me it will be easier to install the inner springs with the engine out of the car after camshaft break in.

I think you have to use a manual transmission bell housing. Unless you are going to hang the converter on it so you have a ring gear for the starter, which might throw in all kinds of vibration.

Back yourself mate and just stick it in the car. If you have to pull it out again, it will only take you a fraction of the time as you'll be so good at it.:laughing7:

our company makes these and here is what we do with our engines mostly to get them off the floor and so we can stack them. We made these stands for ourselves. you could use them as a run stand if you add your radiator and you would have to use manifolds because headers hit the angle iron bottom pieces.

If this is something you want to do then why mess with a bellhousing? Figure out a stand that you can hook up the assembled engine and trans fill everything up and break it in, all at once. Then install the engine and trans in the car as an assembly. Just my 2 cents
