Engine/Trans info needed

I'm looking to swap my 318 for a larger engine possibly a 426 or 440 for my 66Satellite. I met a Mopar guy who may be a good source for an engine. He mentioned I would need to change the transmission also to match up with a big block. Being new to all this, it never occurred to me that I would need to change the trans too. My cars engine and trans are stock. What trans would be needed for the big block change? Thanks for the help.

You will need a 727 transmission for a big block. If your 318 has a 904 trans behind it, you will also need a shorter driveshaft, since the tailshaft of the 727 is longer than the 904. Newer 318's (LA block) most often had 904 transmissions, but I confess that I don't know what yours would have. Your 318 should be the older style 318 Polysphere if it is the stock engine.
