I have a 66 plymouth satellite and I was wondering what the hell is involved in replacing the whipie 318 thats in it now with a 440 or 383 set up. Will the big block go in without spending tons of cash? Also what about a hot 340 or 360 small block ? Just wondering which way to go. I think the B body needs cubic inches to move............what are your thoughts?

The only substitute for cubic inches is more cubic inches, but a properly built 360 can move that B body right along. B bodies look big but not as heavy as most people think. For the 360 swap you will need to shim the right side motor mount - I think it's the right side. Original 904 can be built up to handle the power.

To put in a big block you will need motor mount brackets, trans, drive shaft, possibly a radiator depending where your lower water inlet is (must be on left side), engine harness and exhaust hook up. Best to find a big block with all the pulleys and brackets. Also there are two yoke sizes so you will need to account for that. Most likely you have the small yoke.

If you have to hunt stuff down for the BB conversion you might seriously consider a 360. You can also build a stroker 360 to something like 400 CI. Not sure how expensive that might be but may save money and hassle in the long run for not having to deal with finding the BB parts.

dont be scared. your k member will work. Just find a 4 door bb donor car and get buzy. If you drop another small block in you,ll forever be saying what if? you know you want one.
