I was looking for a little advice.
How much vacuum is enough to run the stock brake booster on a 68 Charger?
Engine is a 383 with a Purple shaft 509 cam.
Thanks In Advance
Mike Z.

I have found for me,less then 12 inch is where I noticed a difference. It wouldn't hurt to run a vacuum canister for sure. The 509 has a rep for this type of thing.

Yhea I only have 8 inches. Booster holds pressure real good.
I have vacuum pump from a new Chevy Cruze has 25 inches when running looks exactly like the Hella on Summit http://www.summitracing.com/parts/hla-009428087
Pretty sure I'm going to make a bracket and use that with a preesure switch
What do you guys think of that pump?
Thanks,
Mike Z.

Looks identical to those found in 1999-2005 Volkswagen's and Audi's.....If you don't want to spend the $150, go to your local scrapyard and pull one out for $20-30 bucks or see how the chevy pump pans out for you. 8", i'd be looking to use a pump. Good luck.

Now the tricky part.
Where the heck should I mount it?

Well the Cruze pump has pressure but no volume. When I bought the car the guy gave me a SSBC pump and preesure switch kit. This is the kit http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ssb-28146
The Cruze pump will not turn off with the pressure switch but the big ssbc pump will build up pressure and shut off.
I'm going to have to run the SSBC pump.
Problem is I've tried to find a place to mount it but it's a 68 Charger with the vacuum canister for the hideaways under the battery tray and no other room except where the MSD box is right front inner fender.
I can't move the MSD box anyplace else without a goofy looking bracket.
In front of the core support wont work due to the headlight actuators.
Thinking about in the wheel well but really don't fit there either with turning radius and bumps to consider.
Anyone running this pump with a great place to mount it please let me know.
Thanks
Mike Z.

Are you running the pump to a vacuum canister? Factorywise (in the volkswagen/audi anyways), they ran a canister shaped like a small sphere.

No does not have a canister. No real place to put one either.
Thanks,
Mike Z.
