Well , that'll bring tears to your eyes. I just got an email tonight from a buddy (chaplain) in Afghanistan, we have no clue what's being done for us around the world, every moment of every day, so our families can stay safe :
On January 4th, one of our own was killed while defending 22 of his buddies in the early hours of the morning. Our FOB was attacked around 7am. The firefight lasted about 40 minutes. SFC KELLY LACEY was the first to his post, and was suppressing fire while the others got in position. He killed 2 suicide bombers before they could set themselves off. In total, we killed 7. An 8th tucked tail and ran. We went after him. Not sure of his status at this point, but he won't survive the month. Kelly Lacey was 38, a husband, and the father of little girls. I met him this summer. A brave man. I have attached my memorial speech and a link to the YOUTUBE Montage Tribute we played in his honor.
