Exhaust manifold help

Installing exhaust manifolds on my 72 Satellite with a 360 motor. Is there a part that goes between the exhaust manifold output and the exhaust pipe? The outside surface of the pipe and the manifold just press up against each other (not fitting within each other) and there is a small gap even when I tighten down the flange on the both sides. Is this normal or is there something that fits between the 2 pipes to form a better seal? There was no other parts connected when removed. Thanks for the help!

Thank you but is the exhaust pipe suppose to go inside the diameter of the manifold output? In my case it doesn't.
The pipe just pushes up against the outer rim of the manifold. Thanks again for the help.
