Expansion Valve Orientation

Questions for those who have knowledge of auto A/C systems.
I am installing an under dash evaporator unit. It came with expansion vale inlet pointing down, like first pic.
Can I turn the valve to a side entrance, as in the second pic, without issue?

This is the factory orientation of my '67.

Expansion valve can be mounted in any position.
