Factory Color of 1962 Dart (Picture)

I pulled this picture off this forum. Is the factory color of this car Deep Cordovan paint code SS-1?

According to the info I can find this color was only available on the Dart in 1962.

My 1962 Polara 500 is this color but the fender tag is UU-1 (beige I believe).

I have gone over the car and can't find any sign of beige. Looks like a good paint job.

My question is could Deep Cordovan have been the original color of my car? Or just a decent repaint?

The previous owner is not sure. He bought it from estate sale.

My opinion,
It was a re-paint.

Fender Tag mistake of that magnitude would NOT have left the factory.
My opinion.

Did you pull seats and look under the floor covering?

Hunt ALL over the car for hints of the beige color. It's very hard to do a complete color change of a Mopar and is usually considered to be a very good paint job when it's done. Over the years, I find it more believable that mistakes were made on VIN tags etc. I've seen some strange stuff. Sometimes it pays to research what was happening during those times like strikes etc when the workers walked out and management tried to keep the lines rolling. Some crazy stuff came off the lines during those times lol

The paint code used for this Dart was Chrysler code OO-1 Embassy Red. (not the correct color for the car) The correct color for this car (it's mine BTW) is SS-1 Deep Cordovan which is a lot more brown.

The other clue on this question, is the 500's had limited color choices. Shell Beige was a choice but Cordovan was a Dart color. The chip chart does show the model codes by the letter to see this. So you 500 repaint has a non stock color.

I have looked through hundreds of pictures of 1962 Polara and I don't think I have seen a Shell Beige color.

Has anybody seen one? Or does anyone have one?

Mine is the Shell Beige and it has the Dusty Rose color interior accents. What color are your interior accents?

The picture of your car, in your other thread, the color has more red in it than the Deep Cordovan. Almost looks like the color on the Plymouth in my last pic. ( I can not find any info on this car. Maybe someone will recognise it)

Okay Here is What I Came Up With

The color of the Polara is close to my 1970 Plymouth GTX that I owned in college.

I have always been an original color guy but I think this was a sign. Which is why I was attracted to the car. Am I grasping here? I really do believe in that stuff.

The color of the GTX is an original color for that car called Burnt Orange. See Pic.

So when I paint the new steelies I think I could go with that color.

*By the way.....my first car was a 1967 Polara.

Most auto paint suppliers have a device that they can detect the color of your car for a good match.

I'm gonna say it's the same color as my Dart, Embassy Red. I think the picture was taken on an overcast day. The only other factory color was Nutmeg Brown Poly and that was lighter than the Cordovan. Did you happen to find the build sheet in your car? It may be able to help.
