Hey all, i have a 69 RR with the factory tach. I wanted to know if the tach internals need to be updated to run an electronic ignition? I have yet to select the ignition so i have options on that end. Seems i have heard people say it can be done without and mods. If anyone has a suggestion on a good electronic ignition kit it would help. Any info would be great, thanks!

yes it will work, and do yourself a favor and keep or put the factory dizzy back in it!!unless you have more money than you know what to do with???I'm sure you will hear how good the MSD is if not all reddy..BULLSHIT!I had one and loved it car started faster got better gas milage, all the good things for about 6 months.went to the track got to the semi finals pulled her in second gear and that she blew up!!!nope you got it that Fing MSD.O well no problem I'll borrow one from my good old buds!!!!ya ARE YOU KIDDING are you on crack or what!!!they would have lent me their wife first!!haha..so after calling my wife and trying to explain to her what she was looking for I got her running again at 1;30 in the morning!!!!3 1/2 hours after the track closed..so with the factory stuff you can carry a spare box in the glove box.but put it in a sandwich bag because it will be there awhile..and use the either chrome or one from a junkyard or napa.the orange one has also let me set two times.but it only took a minute to fix.cuz my spare is bolted next to the one i'm using.....just trying to help, and telling you my experiences

The PerTronix conversion to solid state ignition of the factory distributor supports running the factory tach in my 67 GTX.

Interfacing factory tach to modern digital tach signal

For those of you who would like to run a factory tach taking the digital output from an electronic ignition box (and not from the coil), I came across this simple drawing yesterday.

Unfortunately I have myself bought an interface box from MSD, seems like wasted money now seeing this simple solution.

It just has a "dummy" relay in the circuit, to generate similar ugly overvoltage spikes that the factory ignition coil generates.

I have an MSD on my 66 hemi Charger and the tach doesn't work when plugged into the "tach" port on the MSD. I will try this relay solution or get a tach adapter.

I have a Mopar performance electronic ignition system with the orange box. My tach does not work. I've been told and have read that the mopar setup should not interfere with the tach. So I am guessing i have a loose wire. If you opt for the MSD, you will need to buy an adapter.

It will work with standard electronic ignition where the tach signal comes from the ignition coil negative terminal, but it will not work with a CD type ignition like the MSD where the tach signal comes from the ignition box. The reproduction tach is supposed to work with either type ignition.

I think I have it fixed if not (just typ in used stock car parts or used drit track parts!!!!!! sorry about that !!!!!! I don't know whow to edit the post,,,DAAAAA
