Just got back from this yearly event and thought I'd post some car ****. I even met Tommy Ivo and saw Pam Hardy.

Had to throw in the cool Ford wagon.

Vintage dragster parade.

Hard to take a moving target at night with a bunch of people leaning on the fence, but a few came out OK.

Very cool, pictures i love that x cross ram?? On that rod. Whats that thing on the front of the wagon? Is padding for pushing a dragster? lol

Way cool! Memories from my very misguided youth. Any more info on the Awful-Awful pictured above the Borsch and Marcellus F/A? I'd say an incarnation of "Pure Hell",but the colors aren't quite right. They were the baddest machines out there(there were dragster pilots who wouldn't get near one-and thought the AA/FA drivers were crazy) driven by real men with very large courage units. Thanks for the pics-got any more?

The stab and steer above the other stab and steer had a sign by it explaining something but I forgot to get a picture of it. I did notice the town Livermore was mentioned in the sign so maybe that's where the owner is from. Livermore is about 20 mins from me so maybe I'll see it around. My old boss used to watch those at Fremont in the 60's and 70's and he said there was nothing like it.

Here are a few more. See pic of the mystery car that shows part of the sign. Maybe you can see enough here to shed some light on what it is.

Note VW powered roadster with small block Chevy BBQ! Clever use of a SBC I say! Of course if you load it up with too many burgers you might break the bottom end!!

Got a buddy who is a transplant from Ventura.Been in Il. now 3yrs and his jonesin to go back to Famoso.I'll tell pay a visit to our lil site! Thanks Meep Meep.

Cool pics Alex , that cross-ram setup on that rod is sweet !! i'll have to make a trip to visit in-laws for the next event !

Meep-;I think that the Fuel Altered in question MAY be a version of the "Rat Trap". It wasn't "Pure Heaven";I remember that as being red-white-blue,and powered by a big-block Chevy. I'll have to dig through some old mags. Again, thanks for the pics.

Kind of a bummer that the AA/FA's never drew a big crowd at the strips I went to. I saw an eight-car show at Tri-City back in the early '70's,I don't recall much else as far as Altered programs went. T-C usually had F/C and T/F shows, with the occasional Pro-Stock program back then. I do regret not seeing a good Gasser show;by the time I was going to the strips('72-3),the gassers had kind of faded away. The Funny's were the big thing then.

Speaking of Pure Heaven (I didn't want to say "speak of the devil") I do have one crummy pic from the stands. Actually it says Pure Heaven II. I would have liked to see the drags back in the day but no one in my family was into that, plus I was pretty young in 69.
