No one disputes that the rules also come with a cost to the trucking industry. More breaks & time off the road means it will take more drivers...& more trucks to move the same volume of goods.

More bullshit regulations that will only lower driver’s already small paychecks

And will also raise the prices that consumers pay for the good hauled....

I am a CDL driver with a DOT#.I follow the rules so I don't get BENT OVER at the DOT stops!

They'll never tell you how many cars cause the trucking accidents!! Like cutting into your safe space between vehicles just so they won't be behind a big rig! or doing a panic stop in front of it.And then driving off like they did nothing wrong! Sure glad I retired and sold all my trucks!!!!!! Of course then you have the nine week wonders driving now!Give me a bunch of money and I'll make you a truck driver! Some of them are lucky to spell truck driver.

I talked with our safety manager yesterday and she said that we do not have to take a 34 hr restart after 7 days. If we have the available hours, then we can still drive. All we can't do is take more than one 34 hr restart in a 7 day period. The 1/2 hour break is not that big of a deal. Go in, use the bathroom, walk around a bit, go back in your truck and maybe wait a little bit for the 30 minutes to count and then take off.

And how many of those 4000 accidents were caused by drivers of cars?

Thomas
More than they will ever tell you. but that won't help there agenda. Even if somebody has an accident in there pickup, it gets thrown in with semi statistics.

Give em a voice print id and a gps. The end of the crooked log books. Increase roadside safty inspections ten fold. Who knows they could be haulin a truck full of muslims or tons of fertilizer, or worse yet...electric toyotas.
Those who ain't doing the dirty have nothing to worry about.

Yep far more than probably the truck drivers... I drove for Union Ice Delivery Co. when I was going to school, in summers & on vacations & when I needed some spending money... I had a couple of incidents where little POS tin foil cars pulled in-front of me with a full load of 30k#'s of 300# block ice & Dry Ice, we got from Tracy Ice company {or even bag &/or block ice from our Concord Ice Plant}, even with new brakes, good tires plenty of rest, dry conditions, they just don't stop fast enough or stop like the idiots in the POS little tin foil cars, "think they will", when they cut in-front of you, because they are just too damn impatient, to get behind you & then go around, safely... I literally drove over a POS little Fiat X-19, I couldn't see him in the blind spot in the front, when he cut in-front of me on the 680 freeway, then traffic stopped & I had absolutely no room now & then drove over the back of his little POS tin foil car... He wasn't hurt at all, just scared out of his idiotic mind... I'll bet he thought twice after that, pulling in-front of big trucks, I still got the 2 full points on my license back then late 70's early 80's, even thou the CHP & witnesses all said "it was his fault"... oh well, the other was a POS Honda Civic that did pretty much the same damn thing, but just at a different spot on the 680-frwy, freaken dumb a$$es....

So they're going to reduce the hours per week from 82 to 70 that's a 15% reduction yet these DOT "smart" people who write the laws claim there will be only a 3% reduction in productivity? Sounds like the typical liberal/government number crunching that keeps driving the cost of everything up in the name of "safety". Oh, and don't forget to throw in a poor trooper (no disrespect to the trooper at all) to bolster their claims for good measure.

This is simply a push by the unions to force private carriers to slow to their speed.

Uh-oh, I'm starting to sound like Budnicks ...LOL
