Fender Tag punch out

Anyone seen a fender tag punched out with a letter if so what's it mean
this one is write over the AX area

I ran into the same thing with a 70 RT charger I just got. Has a V punched in it

I believe it is the inspectors stamp also, mine has a G.

For a St. Louis Built car...yes. That's very typical.
