I recently replaced my gas tank and when i removed my filler tube i forgot to see how far in it was originally installed. There is a raised ring around the tube and i need to know if it should be outside or inside the grommet.

Thanks.

If I remember correctly, it really is located by the tang or strap that attaches to the body.

Thanks for your reply. This gas tank is giving me real grief. Its been in and out twice now. also having problems with sending unit not sealing well. Its a new tank, sending unit, straps and hoses. Tired of smelling gas.

Some of those take 2 gaskets to seal, the lock ring fit is loose.

Suggestions on the seal. Mancini's sells a seal that seems thicker from that you get elsewhere, locking ring is also better. Also, you can give the tangs on the locking ring a little twist in a vice first to make it lock with more force. Finally, use grease on the seal as you put the whole thing together, helps keep it in place.

Are you seeing any leaks?

The gas smell could just be vapors from the vent lines.

thanks for all the replies... Yes i was seeing gas...all over the garage floor. my tank and all the accessories came from Quanta. they are sending me a new tank, sending unit gasket and lock ring. I will try mancini for the gasket and lock ring. seems like the o.d. of the gaskets should be larger to keep the gasket in place as you tighten the lock ring. hope this is last time i take the tank out and in...on the bright side it gets easier each time. Thanks again for all the advice. :)
