Hello, When i go to fill the gas tank in my 67 GTX, i have to fill it up very slowly or the pump will shut off. I have checked the vent, etc, and every thing seems fine. Do you think it might be the new style gas pump nozzles? Does anybody else have this problem? Thanks

My 66 Bel and my 71 Ranchero are a pain. I have to have the nozzle at just the right angle or I have gas everywhere. I think it's the non 60's-70's era nozzle design that doesn't like the abrupt bend in the fill pipe that's causing the problems.

I had the same problem with my tank also. The end of your vent tube is held in place inside the tank by a small u-clamp that is fastened to the TOP of the tank. Mine was installed out of this clamp, which allowed the end of vent tube to fall to the bottom of the tank. I reinstalled it back into the clamp, and now I can fill my tank on high very fast. Someone must have had my vent tube out and didn't install it correctly when they put it back in. You have to pull the tank and take the float out to even see the clamp.
Then you have to do some serious twisting and manuvering to get it back in. There is also a second clamp in the tank further back on the tube also to further secure it, but if you get the vent tube into the end one it's really all thats needed - - -

Same problem... slow and steady wins this race. Its almost faster to fill a gas can then pour that in.

My '72 Roadrunner filled even faster somehow then it burned it womping on the pedal. No need to hold the nozzle just right. I can put it in however I want, and open the pump all the way up. It'll eventually click off with about 1/8th of a tank left.

It has a straight inner fill neck the goes from behind the license plate right into the tank and a vented cap.

My only side filler car was my old 68 Dart, and that car was a piece of cake to fill up as it would fill fast, and not splashing out; however my 70 'Runner on the other hand, is always a pain with that low filler neck behind the plate. I don't know how you can ever get one of these late cars ever filled up as filler neck sits too low on the tank, unless you did it by can and went slowly.

You gotta sneak up on my 70 GTX just right....can't fill too fast.

yeah...mine too EV..sometimes i have to talk nice to it and say stuff like .." ...but its good for you baby....drink it slow now....cant have ya barfin' gasoline all over the place,,,,,thats it " personally...i think if you drive a classic car like we all do...that we should pay 1970 gas prices..CAN I GET A WHOA BUNDY?????

Mine did the same thing plus when making a right hand turn, gas would flow out of it. I could place the handle upside down and it would take fuel fast

LOL, me too!! but sometimes that doesn't work either, gotta position the handle between 11 o'clock and 1 o'clock...but super awkward....people must think I'm a little slow if they're watchin' me...but sometimes it won't take any flow at all...ran a new vent line (bigger) and routed it higher too...same thing...not sure what to say exactly...filler nozzle angle to the tank..higher volume pumps at the stations now?? Not sure.

Tpod...all for '70 gas prices!
