Hey so my friend always puts his truck in low gear (1st gear) on his automatic when ever he does a burn out. My question is, is that really bad for the transmission? Why the heck do they even have the 1 and 2 options? What is it for? I do have a rev limiter so I dont think over revving would be a huge concern but I dont want to break my car!

Back in the day, and even today, auto tranny cars have the 1 and 2 options for trailer pulling and need the additional RPMs to get the car/trailer moving or other strenuous activities by the car; or if you're going down a steep hill and need to limit the cars speed. Just grab an owners manual and have a read.

I do burnouts in 1st gear also and also have a rev limiter, however, I'm not revving the engine so high as to be a ricer boy bouncing it off the rev-limiter.

I would get going about 30 in reverse then go through the gears while still going backwards until I slowly walked forward to where I began then start doing dough nuts

If you put the selector in '1' on your torqueflite, you're engaging the low band as well as the clutches. If left in drive, only the clutches are engaged. Putting it in '1' takes the load off the sprag clutch, not a bad thing.

Yup, drop her into first, and light her up at will. Won't hurt anything unless you holding your foot to the floor for blocks at a time..
