I have a 65 Satellite with 440. I had no heating problems. 180-190 degrees, 200 at most.I have a Mopar flex fan. I installed a milder cam, and a dual plane intake. I noticed the water pump was sweeping so I replaced it with 1 from Advance(same style air condition pump). I have a mechanical Auto Meter gauge. When I fired it up with stock radiator, temp went up to 240. I replaced thermostat with Mr Gasket large 180 stat. Temp came down some but not enough. I hade an aluminum 2 row 1 inch flu radiator I put in. Not a lot of difference. (My timing is 15 BTDC and no vacuum leaks-checked with propane). Has anyone used a Flow Cooler or Edelbrock water pump on a warm 440 that seemed to help the cooling? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Before it ran at or below 200*. Changed cam, intake and water pump. Now it runs at 240*? Either you have an air pocket around your temperature probe or the water pump is suspect. Check actual temperature at the water outlet, top tank and bottom tank with a digital temperature sensor (under $30. at Harbor Freight). If 240* is correct, pull water pump and check depth of the vanes verses the one you removed. Also check that the vane is a press fit onto the shaft. If the original radiator cooled it fine I don't see the need to change it. Keep the diagnosis simple and look for the problem to lie in the parts you changed. BTW, I'd be REAL careful checking for leaks with propane, which is heavier than air and seeks a low point. A spark from a bad connection or plug wire could cause an interesting situation...
