i need a flywheel steel cover for my Dodge Charger 440 4 speed.
Mancini has ones for 10.5" and an 11". Not sure which one will fit or how to measure, could use some advice-
thanks in advance

What material is the bell made of?
What year is “my charger”

The Hemi cars all had 11" bell housing and covers. 383 and 440 cars had 10 1/2" bell housings and corresponding smaller covers. Curiously, the 440 cars got a 10.95" clutch that bolted to the same smaller flywheel as the 383 cars that got equipped with 10 1/2" clutch. The large 11" bell housing will not accept the newer mini starters, or the older aluminium starters. The Hemi cars had a cast iron direct drive starter, and they are only ones that will bolt to the larger bell housing. I found this all out the hard way with Wayne Brewers help. I was helping a friend out with his '66 Hemi Belvedere II that was missing its inspection cover. I ordered the correct (for Hemi car) 11" cover from Wayne, and had it shipped to my friend so he could install it. My friend later called me to say the cover was too big and would not bolt on. I went to his shop and confirmed his problem. Upon calling Wayne about the mismatch, the first question he asked me was whether someone had installed a newer mini starter on the car. I confirmed that this Belvedere did have the smaller starter. This was when Wayne explained to me that the bell housing had been changed to the smaller incorrect 10 1/2" housing, requiring the smaller inspection cover. Wayne happily exchanged the covers for us, and all was good.

Believe brewer shows the measurement so you know for sure. If you have the BH casting number that makes it easier. Don't get confused about the clutch size, it is based off of the Flywheel size matching the BH. Street hemi thru 69 172 tooth 11 in, Big Block thru 69 143 tooth 11" and in 70 up hemi and Big block moved to 130 tooth 10.5" FW. 10.5" and 10.95 scalloped "clutches" had a smaller bolt pattern than 11" clutches. Fit the 130 tooth fw.

10.5" BB bells for 130 T flywheel have 2 or more bolt holes for the clutch linkage ball pivots, 11.0" bells for 143 T flywheel have only one.

Our bell housing cast number is 2843234 1967. It has a close to 11” pressure plate. Looking at Galen’s book a lot of the 440’s had the same 11”.
If you can’t trust Wayne, you have a problem.

So is it a 500 or an R/T? Cast iron most likely means an 11” flywheel.

Count the teeth between two clutch cover bolts.

23.8 = 143 tooth FW 11"
21.6 = 130 tooth FW 10-1/2" or 11" scalloped

IT's a R/T 1970 Charger
70 B would have had an aluminum 10.5" bellhousing originally....so it has been changed. Cast iron bell could be 10.5" or 11.0".....does it have one place to screw a ballstud into the side or 2? Or count the teeth on the flywheel like others have mentioned.
