I just finished the trilogy about WW2 in the Pacific by the author Ian Toll. The three books are The Pacific Crucible followed by The Conquering Tide and lastly Twilight of the Gods. This is some of the finest work i have read about this subject. Take a look at these it is well worth it.
He also wrote Six Frigates about the start of the US Navy which is also very well written
