I just put a rebuilt (about I months ago) 904 transmission in my charger with a 2800 stall. It will go through all the gears on column except low. You have to slam colum to get it in low(sloppy linkage) . My problem is it will go I reverse and drive correct and when you get it in low it will drive correct, but when you out it I drive it seems like it's taking off in second d or third. It revs to almost 25-2600 till it starts moving. I have been told it could be a stuck governor or it could be the valve body (I put a B&m shift kit in, street/strip kit). Can I pull tailshaft with transmission in car still? I just put transmission in 2 weeks ago. Should I clean the Governor or upgrade to a steel one? I just want to drive my car and it's frustrating me.

The first thing I would check would be the kickdown/throttle linkage rigging. This has to be right for the system to work correctly. Then check the rigging on the gear selector linkage per the service manual. HTH

Kick down is set up and adjusted properly. Tried adjusting column linkage and its just so sloppy even with new bushings. I. Thinking of putting a new floor shifter in it and then try it again before I crack open transmission

There is a governor pressure tap. You can read governor pressure. If it's stuck you will have pressure with no vehicle speed .

Can I check it with transmission in car together? Or how to check it. If I have to pull tailshaft just to check pressure I'll just clean it.

Yeah I'm currently looking through my ATSG manual as well. I think I might have an oil pressure gauge laying around .
