Looking to update my front disc brakes on my 67 Coronet , I am useing it more and more at the Strip vs Street . Looking at saving wieght and get better stopping. Any suggestions as to who offers the best package . Any issuses I need to be aware of if I go to the Light wieght Brakes for Street use ? Car is presently running low 11 s, looking at getting to 10.90 .

Thanks

Just do some research...
Check out what Summitt has to offer OR ask fellow RACERS to see whst they would have done differently.

eBay has a complete set up or 385 shipped and it's all new stuff.

Make sure you have a dual master cylinder, and make sure it's good. They're not very expensive and I would recommend replacing it at the same time unless it was already brand new, but that's just me. Make sure any kit comes with a proportioning valve as well.

Dr. Diff also has some decent deals, there's always a crap shoot or decent deals on E-Scam{E-Bay}, SSBC-Stainless Steel Brake Company make bolt on kits {kind of pricey but truly bolt on}, Wilwood, Baer, Strange Engineering, Magnum Force Racing, or many others... I suggest to get slotted & drilled rotors/disc's what ever brand/style you choose, they are noticeably better for stopping & cooling... I wouldn't suggest that you go to a really lite weight racing brake, for the street, thin disc's warping no venting & little/small brake pucks/pads, that are intended for extremely lite weight race cars & not continuous usage like, going down hills, stop lite to stop light, bumper to bumper traffic or windy/curvy roads etc. {only if it will be occasionally used on the street}... You can always do a complete Mopar disc brake spindle rotor & calipers off a different year A B E or even some C Body... there are quite a few to choose from now allot depends on your knowledge, fab skills, wrenching abilities, tools & mostly your BUDGET... There's a good article on Mopar Action Mag's web site, in their tech section, for popular Mopar disc brake swaps... good luck

I read your post as you already have disc, but intend to go w/ a lighter set. Give Wilwood a call. They can set you up w/ something that will be light(er)weight and provide decent reliability for limited street use.

For that extra tenth or so, have you considered going to disc on the back if you haven't already? Might be cheaper...

Thanks for all the good input. May look at doing the rear as mentioned .

The summit racing branded kits are repackaged SSBC kits with iron calipers. Everything was top notch, heavy duty, and truly bolt on. I did not have to make any runs to the local parts store in order to install the kit. I was looking at wilwoods for awhile, but I couldn't see them lasting long on the street.

The local guys that run stock class are using Aerospace components. Just another source for you to check out.

Please give Jeg's a look if you are thinking of going that route. They are fielding a Mopar in the highly competitive NHRA Pro Stock division and are competing against the Summit camaro's. I'm just saying..........

those are full on race cars, same type chrome-moly tube chassis cars, with struts front, 4 link suspension/coil overs rear, high $$$ carbon fiber brakes & only weight 2650#'s with ballast added... they aren't street cars, of any kind... I guess if you have a car like that, you could go where ever you need to, to get parts... nothing wrong with either Summit Racing or Jegs for parts, neither of those guys you reference, pays for any of their own parts either, especially Mopar's Roy & Allen Johnsons team driver & Jegs sponsored, Jeggy Coughlin Jr.

Budnicks, what I'm trying to say is that Jeg is fielding a car with Mopar support and Summit is fielding cars with GM support. Its not exactly win on Sunday and sell on Monday but if Jeg don't have revenue from mail orders sales or have sponsorship from Mopar then it is one less Mopar to do battle with an already mostly shivvy Pro Stock field of cars. I'm enjoying NHRA drag racing because of the highly competitive Mopar VS shivvy Pro Stock class. I agree, there is nothing wrong with Summit parts but then again, there is nothing wrong with Jeg parts either. The bottom line is that if you are looking to buy aftermarket parts from Jegs's or Summit, you can help keep a Mopar in the Pro Stock field of cars buy supporting Jeg's.
