Can you guys help me get my front suspension apart? I have a '70 Roadrunner with 4 wheel drum brakes and I am redoing the front suspension with parts from Firm Feel due to beat down torsion bars, old ball joints, etc. There are two things I can't figure out.

The first is: How do I get the front brake drum off of the wheel hub? Shouldn't it slide right off like the back ones do? You'll see in the first pic that I removed the whole upper A arm and Pinion and Brake as one piece because I couldn't get the drum off and therefore couldn't get the wheel hub off. I guess I could take it to a shop if I had to now that it's off the car...

The second is: How do I unscrew (if that is correct) the front rubber brake line from the mount on the body? You'll see in the second pic that I easily removed the metal line from the mount on top (pic is the left front suspension), and that I simply cut the (scary dangerous looking) old line to remove the wheel hub. The leftover part of the rubber line seems to be swedged into the body mount. It rotates a little when pushed with a wrench, and it is shaped for a wrench, but it doesn't seem to unscrew...

THANKS!

Your front drum is not like the rear...The wheel studs are pressed/secured in the drum, unlike the rear.

To get it off, pop off the dust cap in the center of the drum (screwdriver under the lip-work around to pop off), remove the cotter key, flimsy key washer, big nut and washer...Walla.

Second pic......there is a horseshoe shaped brake clip on the top of that bracket, that joins the steel to rubber brakeline. You can see the outer lip of it in the pic you have posted (folds upwards). Grap that lip with a pliers than tap the pliers with a hammer down where your grabbing it. Judging by the pic you'll need to tap away from the car.

hope it helps

Good job description Prop!!

GENIUS! As usual, it's easy if you know what you're doing - or if you're taught by a good instructor. Thanks Prop. I read some of the other threads on the subject but didn't quite get it until your post here.

May you forever bask in the warm Propwash of a vintage 1000 horsepower 18-cylinder radial engine (or the design of your choice)...

LOL...thanks Grabinov, glad I could help. See i'm gonna have to print your quote and show it to the wife as proof. The thing is, usually she ends up calling me the opposite of "Genius"...lol

Hope the rest of your tear down/rebuild goes well.
