I have a new 5 gallon fuel cell. Drag race only car. People have said to remove the foam from the cell as over time race fuels like VP break down the foam. Have any of you racers experienced problems with that happening? Thanks in advance.

I had the foam in my fuel cell start to come apart. No clue how old it was. But never remove the foam from a fuel except to replace it. Its there for a reason which is to keep the fuel mixture too rich to blow up.
Just want to keep as much junk out of the fuel line as possible. Obviously using good filters to keep things clean at the engine end, but would like to eliminate potential problems. I thought the plastic or other material in the cells was for the guys doing drifting. Just trying to get opinions from guys like you as to pros and cons of having it in the cell.
My JAZ fuel cell had the same when new foam in it for 16 years when I sold the car. It still may be in it.I ran C-14 blend with pump gas all those years. I did check for deterioration on a regular basis.
8 years with foam. As long as the cell is full and your not running a return line you could take it out. It's there to prevent slosh, and aireated fuel caused by pump return. A friend had his deteriorate. It was close to 20 years old and he runs methonal. I'd leave it in.

Had foam in my jaz fuel cell from 88 till 2015. No problems. Removed and replaced due to switching to e85.
I will say some of the foam seems different now. What was in mine was more of a mesh than foam.
