Hi All,

Is the unit install as shown in Picture A or Picture B below? I pulled mine out but I didn’t pay attention on how in came out.

After looking at resistance measurements, I am pretty sure its as shown Picture A. I’ve been known to be wrong before.

Let me know. Thanks.

Pic B shows the sending unit that was already in the car. The solder drop on the float fell off and the float was filled with gas. I guess thats why I never had reliable gas level readings.

Also, referring to Pic B, I ordered a 440/426 fuel sending unit. I should have ordered a 318 sending unit. My car was originally a 318 but for some reason I had it in my mind to order 440 components. I cracked the pre-filter on the new 440 unit so I can't return it to Summit. I just took the float off the 440 unit and put it on the original unit. I am guessing the og unit is a 318 sending unit.

Also, I didn’t recall seeing my fuel tank grounding strap. In the 66 Coronet Service manual it appears to run along the rubber coupling between the Fuel Tank Sending Unit tube and the hard fuel line for the rest of the fuel system. Is that right?

I may have to make a grounding strap.

Thanks,

I did mine as pic b shows, it makes most sence to have the fuel intake facing the bottom of the tank not the top. Probably wouldnt take to long to run out of gas in pic a.

Which photo

Use pic A.
Your sending unit, ring & seal, will be installed ,in the mounting hole, at almost a 45 degree angle to the bottom of the tank & thus the 90 degree elbow in the pick up line, lays vurtually on the bottom of the tank, along with the sock. Your sending unit stat float will then be allowed the full travel ,from full to empty.

Good to hear.

After moving the good float over to the original sending unit I installed the unit as shown in pic A. Additionally, the pic A orientation is the only way the resistance measurements make sense.
