How can I check to see if my sending unit in the gas tank is working or not? Right now not geting any reading on my fuel gauge.1963 Plymouth Savoy..

First make sure the connections are attached to both the gauge and the sending unit. If they are, make sure the ground strap is in place between the sending unit and the metal fuel line. It provides a ground across the rubber fuel line. If it's missing you can use a piece of electrical wire and hose clamps to provide the ground across the rubber fuel line. Check the gauge again to see if it's working. If it's not working....

Remove the wire from the sending unit and temporarily ground it. If the gauge doesn't move, then it's probably bad.

If the gauge goes up to full, then the gauge is working OK, and the sending unit is bad.

My gauge goes to 3/4 when full. Would you say sender or gauge issue ?

Just this summer alone I have heard two guy's that installed new senders in thier mopars and not had the needle respond as it should,'' it doesn't read full''.
I asked if they checked it first.....answer...NOOOO.
I have had the pleasure of installng one in almost every car I have bought, and this new Runner I got this week needs one as well. LOL, I would say 2 out of the 6 needed a bit of a bend to read correct.
If you don't have a 12v tester that an read amps it is a good investment for the to box.

Based on my experience I'd say the sending unit is the problem, not the gauge. You'll probably have to remove the sending unit and bend the arm so that the float is lower.

I've found that if it's possible, fill the tank half full, insert the sending unit and check to see if the gauge reads half full. If it doesn't, bend the float arm until you get the gauge to read correctly.
