man im getting tired of trying to fix my fuel guage,,new sending unit only reads 1/2 tank at full, removed it trying bending it as you guys have suggested on here, put it back in and friggin gas pissing out everywhere, cant get seal back in straight , removed tank, thought maybe ill just order another new sending unit, check this one on the bench and it reads from 60 ohms to 10 ohms, put in on the car without the tank, and it reads the fullest is 1/4 tank, goes from empty to 1/4 tank. old one reads from empty (60ohms) to full at (0 ohms) but the old one the float arm binds at half way point, what should i do , put in the new one that will never read fuller than 1/4 tank?why is it so hard to get quality new parts that friggin work properly, so frustrated with this whole thing !:angryfire:

the partsi have are spectra premium gas tank and sending unit

I calibrated mine while it was out of the tank. Ran some jumper wires from it to the cars wiring, raised the float to full stop & checked what the gas gauge read. Did the same at empty stop and actually bent the full stop tab vs bending the float arm. Of course I did'nt think of doing this the first time when I installed it in the car, but got smart about it the second time.

60 to 10 ohms should get you pretty close to correct readings.(73 to 8 is factory spec i think.)the problem may be in the car and not the sender if you can only get 1/4 tank read out of that sender.check for resistance in the wiring to the guage.

Make sure the ground is good when the sending unit is installed in the car and I would seriously consider switching to a solid state voltage limiter if you've not already done so.

this is what i did.

I have a good sending unit from a 67 if it helps...might be able to use it or use parts. I am pretty sure the tanks aren't the same though.

If you can't get a full reading with 0 ohms you have a guage problem.
