I was looking at the Dougs and Hooker full length headers, 1 3/4" primary. Any issues installing/fitment, any thing I need to watchout for, on a 65 B body (Coronet) 383 4 spd?

Are they full chassis headers ? But should not be a problem as I have 2" TTI headers on my 63 and they fit with no problems. Ro

From what I could gather from their websites, the Dougs require a mini starter, the Hookers might need alteration of the trans linkage, not sure if they mean auto or stick as they are very vague and don't specify. Hedman seems to make some also.
I'm looking for a set of headers, full length or shortys that don't require alterations. I consider a dimple here or there as normal but don't want to have to redesign the whole darn car! Probably leave the mani's but i do love the sound of headers.

Any major fitment issues with those? Like I said earlier, I don't mind some dimples here and there, I don't want to have to cut/weld linkage/clutch or have to change my starter. Thanks again

Nope.

I have a 440 in my '63 330 and the drivers header goes in from the top, passenger up from the bottom and they practically fall into place.

You do have to jack the engine up off the mounts an inch or two.

I even kept the factory studs in the 906 heads and they slipped right on!

Mine is also a manual steering, manual brake car so that helps.

I looked up the Hedman install sheet and they say the clutch linkage arm needs to be trimmed, not so bad. I'll have to look at mine and see if it matches their picture.

I have had major issues with the 78030's in my 64 Belvedere. Heddman tech tells me it is because I am using them on a 400 and not a 440. I asked them why they market them for a 383-400 if that causes the issues. They never answered me back. I am on set number 2(there was a set on it when I bought it and they wouldn't seal.)and they have been clearanced for the mini starter, the centrelink, and the trans pan rail. They also hit the pan rail on the 400 block. They are going into the junk pile. I wouldn't buy another set of Heddman Headers if they were the only company left on the planet. Spend the bucks and get the TTI's or Shumachers.

I have the Dougs ... do run a mini starter.... pass side is TIGHT ! .. not a bad install, and no mods ...

Dont know if this pic will help but these are Hedman 1-3/4 headers on my old 440 combo and they fit great. I use a mini-starter also but my car is an auto and not a stick. Ron

Maybe the clearance issues between the 440 and 383-400 is the 440 is a raised block. sounds like everyone running a 440 aren't having the clearance issues.

I have a set of TTI for my 69 charger and I bought a set of hooker super comp. Worst headers I ever bought. their quality has gone down hill.

That's what happens when your bending tubes in MEXICO instead of the good ole USA. :angry4:

The heddmans seem to be a good fit for the RB. The other knock for me is the fact that you can't run power steering with most of the cheaper headers. After having this car for a few years, I'm putting power steering in.

I do believe the problem is with the B block. On my 383 there were clearence issues with the center link. These were Hedman headers. Looks like not as many problems with the RB block.

A lot of guys even use these for underchassis headers in low-deck Bigblock equipped A-bodies.

They do snug up to the block really well.
