Fury side moldings

I'm starting to do body and paint on my 1963 and was wondering the best way to remove the side moldings from the fenders and doors.
The metal clips aren't a problem but is there any way to save the plastic clips?
They are kinda brittle.
I've saved a few and broke a few but was wondering how you guys are doing it?

When I removed all of the side chrome from my polara I broke virtually all of those plastic clips. That (plus the fact that they are scarce and not cheap) forced me into deciding to replace them all with the universal metal clips and sealed nuts.
