had my fusible link burn up that comes from my starter relay to the bulkhead on my firewall just wondering what was the best way to go about fixing it, and also what size fuse i need to replace it

Fusible links go by wire size. Probably a 12 gauge, but match it to the existing wiring. Do you know why it burned?

i dnt no why it burned i was just driving home one day and the car died on me pulled over and seen that the wire had almost completely burned from one point to anohter

normally that would imply that some other wires shorted out some place else and caused that.i would check for continuity to the body from the burnt wire.if you have it,then there is a short you need to find before you just replace the fuse link.

It could also mean that our dear friend the bulkhead connector is bad loose/ corroded, and generatied enough heat to cause the link to melt.

Every bit of that and then some is true, BUT fusible links DO have a life span under normal conditions. It could be that it just gave it up. I'd inspect every stinkin thing on that circuit before I put it back together.

If it looks burnt out its most likely a short. What I do is get the wireing diagram and see what is on that fuseable links circuit. It may have the J2 circuit on it as I have seen alternator rotors short to ground and cause that. Many times when you find whats on the circuit and check each item you might find the wires to the problem starting to look melted also. But you need to replace the fuse link with the size it calls for and then find that short. Ron
