Garmin or Megellan.. which gps is easier/better

I like my garmin. Updates are pricey though. Never used magellan so I have no frame of reference to compared the two.

I'm horrible at directions... I can read a map too...LOL
But say I have to go to some ones house I havent been to before. I have a hard time. Things are all screwed up out here for me.
I come from the east coast and still haven't got used to the ocean being on the left.. cant find north to save my life.. But back in New England there wasn't anything I couldn't find. Its sad... been out west since 89...hahahaha

I have a magellin (bout 4 or 5 year old). Works perfect for us because i drive (of course) and my wife is dyslexic so her reading a map on the go is an exercise in frustration for both of us.

i hear some of em (not sure what brands) you can download different voices like a drill Sargent who yells at ya. Might entertain the kids a bit.

Yeah, i have heard pirate speak out of them. Better know your port from your starboard.hahaha

Garmin. Least expensive. Don't need blue tooth or big screens. My first streetpilot $99 Garmin is the best. I've used it Coast to Coast. Maximum speed show 482 MPH from airplane ride. Previous was 113 in a desert blast with the Coronet. I was NOT driving.

Last year my wife bought me a Garmin for Christmas. She bought it with the lifetime free updates. I usually update it every November. It works quite well but I found that "turn right in 100 feet" when there are three streets in the next 100 feet can get you in trouble if you have trouble determining exactly how far 100 feet is!

Garmin has a history in aircraft avionics.

Never used either, but did have a first or second generation TomTom (with John Cleese voice).
It was OK, but the built in GPS/Nav on my LG Optimus phone blows it away.

I found that Garmin works the best....Just a reminder that technology is not perfect. Turns & distances are sometimes incorrect. I do A route list preview & site map display, very helpful....

Had my Garmin for about 4 years, its been 98% accurate. And the 2 times it was off were in wierd locations anyway. I will say I never spent the $$$ for the update tho....

Garmin. The new ones have a "traffic" button you can hit when you find yourself jammed up somewhere and need the easiest detour, rather than end up on the east side/ south end where you'll get killed if you pull over to input new data.

As for folks like Rusty who will get to that part of town and need to open a paper map, he's just toast. :icon_lol:

I use Garmin in the aviation world...can't be beat. But then again i'm looking at airspace not roundabouts..Like Rusty i'm a bit old school and use maps. Not a whole lot of Metro areas around here and nor do I care to visit any if feasible. Sister has a Garmin in her ride, loves it.

Rewards points to spend so I was thinking of a gadget for myself. Already took care of the kids and wife :)

I bought a new Megellan, works great and Free lifetime updates,Free iS good LOL

I have three Garmins. I purchased the lifetime updates for each of them. They are pretty accurate as far as we have used them which is quite often. Never used a Magellan so can't speak to them at all.

I've had a GPS driving cross country for about 6 or 7 years now been driving many years don't need it but it is a great tool as far as brand any brand for a car will do just fine I have a caliber but cobra makes one and a friend of mine has one made for the military any one is the same

Buy a Rand McNally Map Book

My Pops has one, it's a Megellan & he call it Meg, she talks to him,but I hate the thing, it's wrong allot, you have to constantly upgrade them too... Anyway I'm old school, I like a good old Rand McNally map, I've been all over the USA, Canada & Mexico with out ever needing a GPS, they are really only good for the golf course & for finding a distance to the pin/flag or hole location, only IMHO

I have a magellan right now and it's ok,but if i ever got a new one i think i will go with a garmin.
