i have a 70 bee with a 440 and 4speed it currently has 4.56 gears which is a little extreme was wanting to get either a 3.73 or a 3.91 wondering if i could get some input on what other people have tested and tried and came up with motor is 10:1 decent cam nothing crazy also wondering what the best tire size wheel offset works best on these cars i wanna get the biggest street/sick i can get under it without doing any choping of the body!!!

IMO a 3.55 is the right compromise. I'm running 3.91 now, not good on highway use. I wouldn't bother unless to go to at least the 3.73.

I'd have to ask whats your intent?? Light to light racing? Hwy cruzin?

I'm running 3.91's with 28" tall tires in my RR. It's fun in town, but not the greatest @ 60mph. About 3200rpm if I remember correctly. On my current Charger build, I am using the stock 3.54's in the Dana, to be more highway friendly.

i am running 3:55, 27" tire 295 wide.

goes good in town and highway. i ave a 4 speed and in 3rd gear doing 35mph i sit on 1200 rpm, and she still smokes 1st and 2nd

4.10 with 30" tire. Feels like a 3.91. I wouldn't go lower than a 3.91 with a four speed and a 4.10 with an automatic. saving 200-400RPM on the interstate at 65MPH isn't going to break into a new stratosphere of increased fuel economy when you are already running 3000(+/-)RPM..

With my 440 and a 270 deg cam (advertized) on a 112 lobe separation it really likes 3.55's. I'd take a good look at your cam power band and plan accordingly. My car is an auto and weighs 4000 lbs going down the road.

I run 3.55 in my 68 Coronet with a 275/60/15. In my opinion I wish I had a little less gear. Great around town but pretty slow on the freeway. You have plenty of tourque you can push what ever gear you want.

+1 to the 3.55 crowd. Heard from a of lot old mopar buddies that it's a great middle ground for highway cruising and street driving. I'll be moving to 3.55 from the 3.23 I have now

I have a 9 1/4 with 321 and was thinking I will run 355 when I rebuild my 73 SSP the factory rear was a 8 1/4 with 276 and did not live well with a 400

Great info in this thread. I have a '69 440 6-pack car w/ auto, but plan on putting in a 4spd. eventually. It's got an 8 3/4 4.10 rear now, but I definitely wanna re-gear for more cruising/highway, regardless if I stay auto or not. Will be raced occasionally for fun, but nothing serious. Motor is fresh w/ a 295/.507 cam.

Just debating between 3.23 & 3.55. Will that 3.23 feel too sluggish for street cruising? I know I have enough torque but don't want it to be a total dog off the line. So leaning towards 3.55.

I have a 9 1/4 too with 3.55 gear ratio and it's a sure grip too. Anybody interested in buying it? Came out of a 1975 C body is what I was told. Was considering to use this on my 70RR but came across and bought a 3.23 gear ratio in a 489 case. I also have a 742 casing only from the same guy here on the forums.
