Great thread to start, I'd like to know too :) Been thinking about an OD myself.

My Road Runner has a GV, allowing me to run 4.10 gears in the Dana (kills it on the street) and still get 15-16 mpg on the highway (with a 600+ hp Hemi).

Not to steal the mojo from FBBO but there is a lot about GV posted over at Dodgecharger.com. Especially about fit and installation.

Positive: bombproof.

Negative: cost (3k or so).

Takes a little getting used to that GV engagement, doesn't it? Got a friend who just put a turbo'd LS in his 62 F100. He's got the 4l80e trans with a GV on it. With the 4.11 gears that thing is a kick in the butt to ride in. It really just coasts along at 80.

Any idea if the OD can be used on a 727 with manual valve body? Is it activated by some button or lever?

Great, i really need to think about going this route too. $3G is an awful lot of money to shell out though. I'd need a lot of miles to get a pay back out of it - but it would be nice to not worry about running out of gas between gas stations :)
