...too many cylinders, not enough cubic inches, and a 472 Hemi is 1/7th the cost...and makes more power...

Me too. No exotics for me.

"item has been in storage for almost 40 years."

More like: iitem has been in a pond for almost 40 years.

Well you know, some damn idiot, that has more money than brains, right now is looking at that prancing horse engine ad/sale & saying to himself, "I gotta have it".... I guess if it was for a car you had & you really needed it, to complete the project & had that kind of money in the 1st place, it probably wouldn't phase you at all...

I'd buy that block for $20 and mount a glass tabletop on it for my man room...

Wow! There's a first! I've never heard of a V12 Ferrari called "limp wristed Italian scrap" Especially on a Mopar forum, where people appreciate good engineering.

I'm not up on the finer points of Ferrari collecting, but my guess is this is listed by the same jack wad that lists rusted out project cars for $35,000 cuz they're 'rare'.

Yeah, really.

i proudly own a MoPar, and i will some day own a ferrari as well {even if it's only the horse emblem lol}

Enzo Ferrari knew his **** {for road racing!} way back when, and everybody is still chasing him to this day.

not saying this "boat anchor" is worth 175g's; but if it's really from a 275GTB (four-cam??) from the 60's, it is worth a damn good chunk of change. .02

i would buy it for a 500 just to hang it in my garagemahal....

What don't you get? You need to expand a wee bit so I can reply.

I guess it's a US thing, especially on this forum. I appreciate the Euro ride, trust me I do but the contrast between defending Italian engineering and holding it up to the lower 48 Mopar gurus kind of made my tiny brain pop.

No harm, no fowl.

Trust me, I love Mopar stuff, and I think that their engineers had some of the best stuff around for the time & the market. I'm not comparing one to the other. They were different. What got me is the "limp wristed Italian scrap" comment. I'm sorry, but I like cars, I like them alot, and although I may prefer Mopars, but IMO to call a Ferrari V12 limp wristed scrap is just wrong on so many levels. Sure, the seller may be a dick, and what he is selling may not be worth it, but you cannot paint Ferrari with that brush.

500 what? Fish heads?
BTW, Garagemahal? I couldn't fit my tools in there let alone cars.
Love the GTX though.

Sorry. I'll explain a little more.

I'm also a Ford guy and own a GT350. In 1964 when Enzo was on the verge of loosing the GT championship to Shelby, he managed to convince the European sanctioning body that the Monza Italy track should not be run that year - after all, he was ahead by 2 points in the manufacturers championship and it stood to reason that he would lose Monza because the Cobras (Daytona Coupes) were far superior on the long tracks with high top speeds. So for completely bullshit reasons, and with less than 1 month to go, Ferrarri got the Monza race scrubbed - thereby winning the Manufacturer's cup for GT cars (which the Ferrari 250 - and this ebay engine ran)

Then Carroll made his famous statement: "Next year Ferrari's *** in mine."

In 1965, Shelby made good on his threat, and the little car built in a garage, with a pedestrian 289, cast iron, cam in block, american hot-rodded engine out of a Fairlane(!) won the Manufacturers cup for GT class. The first time an American car driven by Americans had ever accomplished that feat.

1965 289. Against this ebay Ferarri engine.

..So yeah..."limp wristed Italian scrap".

Ah, OK, I see where you're coming from. I remember that story now.
Thanks for the clarification, although I still wouldn't call that engine "limp wristed scrap"

I think back in those days you'd find a lot of politics & "cheating" by all manufacturers/competitors in many racing series. Hell, Enzo was probably the best at it.
