In the garage. Under the hood. Again.
So...first,since I haven't been here in a little bit,I hope all is well with all of you. Been kind of hectic for me,but hey, that's life.

Spent the last two days at a swap meet for (mostly) vintage snowmobiles. Moved a sled and some parts,so I got a couple of Bennies in the pocket. Took one last run around the swap before I split and what do I spy with my little eye? What do we have here? Why,it's a pair of dem racin' slicks. Get closer and see that they are unused looking-they were, unused, that is.

Mickey Thompson ET Drags,9X29.5X15,with tubes. Never run,no dry rot or damage. Sweeeeet...I had planned on using radials, but for the price I got these for,I could not pass them up. You don't want to know...do you?

How's $180.00 for the tires and tubes sound? Yeah,I thought that would be your reaction. That's OK;sticks and stones,yadayada...

Tubes alone are well over half of that cost. good deal!

Great price that's near a $600 purchase new RETAIL cost, what are they going on ?

Budnicks;they'll end up on the Sport Fury after the 440 gets built,so I don't burn up the street radials at the track. I want a torque motor;had planned on running drag radials, but these will fit, they're an ideal size for what I plan build-wise,and hey,the price was right.

A question: what would you guys recommend for preserving these? I've heard about-over the years-linseed oil, silicone, trans fluid,Armor-All,the sweat of virgins, you name it. Same question would apply to the tubes. I may("may" being the operative word) get another set of chrome steel wheels like I have now for when she goes to the track. Another q: would you cats recommend keeping them un-mounted or should I mount them,er;get them mounted? They're going to stay in the house for now;gets bloody cold here in MI at times.

Al,store em in the basement where its dark and cool and not directly on the floor.Kinda on the same order as a vintage sled track.

How old are they to begin with ?? As for the storage, I would keep them in a dry cool place for sure, as for the preservation thing, I don't think any oils on the tires is a good thing, especially the tread area, most of that stuff is "old wives tales" I think, in the 70's we would rub the tread surface with gasoline & swap tires side to side after every pass "it was what everyone did" I don't really know if it was in vane or not... {Armor-All} maybe on the side walls only, wrap them in cellophane plastic, them put them in a sealed trash bags & keep the rubber out of the heat or cold for sure, controlled climate is always best, up off the concrete floors, if you don't mount them right away store the tubes in large plastic zip lock bags, keep them from being exposed to temperature & humidity changes as much as possible, they will last longer, that's how the "tire manufacturers" store & ship them... Before you mount the tires & tubes on the rims of choice, use a liberal bit of "baby powder" inside the tire & on the tubes it will help from pinching the tubes under hard bites & low tire pressures, good luck...

Budnicks;I was wondering about the age as well. They really are in great shape;none of the slight "cracking" that precedes full-on rot. Still have that new tire "feel" and pliability. There's the remnants of the sticker on one of them;too worn to read any info off of it. Going to have to look through some old catalogs and see when the sidewall lettering was changed(from "MICKEY THOMPSON" to "M/T"). Is there any code on the tread(all ink imprints are there) that would indicate manufacture date? They are a standard "3056",not the 3056ST for a stick car. Obviously,a tire failure because of an age related defect is not in my plans...

Thanks for the storage advice as well!

There may be a code dating I'm not sure on that one, call Mickey Thompson see & what they say about the serial#/coding on the tire there is probably some way of tracking the date... If they look good I wouldn't worry too much, but it would be good to know...
