Hey Guys i came across a 66 charger 383/727 car pictures show it looks nice. What do i need to look for before buying this car? I know tail lite lenses are pretty rare, are the headlites electric or vac operated to roll them around. I think all the dash gauges are fussy too correct? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards Sheldon.

You prity much nailed it on what to look for and just to add one rust!!!!
Got any pictures or more info I want a 66 prity bad but I need to wait awhile good luck

Headlights are electric. Bring a fridge magnet to check lower body, or any questionable areas, for filler. Take clear pictures of the fender tag and VIN so you can decode. And it's always cool to have the Certicard.

Save some Mopar VIN/fender tag/engine decoding links on your phone or print them out for quick reference. You can use any major deviations from original as a bargaining chip if the seller is asking a lot, or try to contain yourself if it's a hemi car!

Crawl under the car and look for any frame repair or patches.

Look at the unibody structure for any collision repair - upper or lower radiator mount and inner fenders up front especially.

Bring a bright flashlight and an extendable magnetic pickup tool so you can crawl under the dash and inspect the cowl.

Obviously check the floors, trunk and all the traditional rust spots on these unibodies.

The headlight setup and gauges can be very expensive to repair. There are a great resources on this and the 66-67charger.com forum. Also make sure the door panels are in good shape as there are no replacements made for them. They are not the typical flat style and are very contoured. Look for rust. Some of the panels you can use a Coronet as a replacement. But I dont think anyone makes 1/4s for it. Many of the parts are B-Body parts. You just have to make sure the Charger specific pieces are in good shape.

Ok thank you very much guys. Will take my own pics when i get there. He said the car is appraised at $25K. Its one thing to have appraisal cost, but is there actually $25k worth of value there. He said body paint and interior are done? I know? what does done mean.lol I have a 71 duster i am building, and i will be into it for close to $30K when done, and thats actual parts that you can see touch and feel. Including paint. So i may be way off base, but i look for parts drivetrain rebuilt etc for dollar value.

I like the gen 1 chargers, and a big part of why I like them is you get a lot if car for the $$ compared to the 68-70 chargers. That being said, $25k for a 66, IMHO, that car better be show quality and EXACTLY what you always wanted.
