Hey I am lucky enough to be going to Maui tomorrow for 6 days and was wondering if anyone had any recomendations?

This will be the first time going and really the first big vacation I have been able to take (the wife makes a lot more money than me and is letting me come with her):headbang:

I know I should have put this up earlier but busy with everything else. Will check back in the morning and with my phone when I am there if it works. Thanks and have a great week. Jim

I was there once back in the mid 90's and all I saw was sugar cane and pineapple. Since I wasn't there very long I missed out on the road to Hana, which a buddy said was awesome but takes a whole day http://www.govisithawaii.com/2008/03/19/tips-for-driving-the-road-to-hana/ I did go to to the top of this mountain http://www.to-hawaii.com/maui/attractions/haleakala-national-park.php and remember a pretty good view of the skinny part of the island - and more pineapple.

Now what you want to do is get on a plane and go to Kawaii for a day or two. Talk about some sight seeing! http://www.aloha-hawaii.com/kauai/waimea-canyon/ I also took a helicopter ride there and that was pretty cool. Island hopping shouldn't be too expensive and the flights are pretty short.

Have fun haole and beware of a big mahu bearing gifts!! http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=mahu&defid=799381

The road to Hana is awesome!! It is full of twists and turns, up and down, a waterfall on nearly every turn. Very slow going with hairpin turns and condusive to natives popping out of the jungle walking along the car hawking Maui-Wowie if you so inclinded.

The island is quit geographically diverse with the typical tropical climate, dry Arizona like desert on one end, and often snow on the mountain top.

I have been to Hawaii 3 times and stayed on O'ahu, Hawaii, Maui and Kaua'i.

Honalulu is New York with a tropical beach Wikki Beach is nothing special. The best night lifre of all the islands though. GREAT snorkeling right down the road at Hanama Bay. Some great small towns around the coast. The North shore is windy all of the time but has some world class surfing.

They are all beautiful islands Maui is more of the high roller island with many top end resorts.

I can't remember if it is Maui or Kaua'i that has the grand Canyon of the Pacific, either way it is great to see from a helicopter.

Kaua'i is the most non commercial islands except Moloka'i, Kaho'olawe and Lana'i which are all small and very sparcely populated and seldom visited.

Hawaii was my least favorite as much of it is barren wasteland of black lava from the ever active volcano that has burned and buried towns in the last 20-30 years.

Of course all of your typical ocean activities available. parasailing, deep sea fishing, kiaking, surfing, snorkling, scuba, boating, etc.

You won't be disappointed. Beautiful place to live year around especially if you are from a winter climate area and sick of the snow. Expensive to live though.

If you are looking for a place to retire with the same climate with 3rd world prices then look at Costo Rica. That is where I am looking to go. I would go to Hawaii but just to expensive and I am also sick of our government reaching into my pocket with little in return and I don't see it getting any better any time soon.:sad10: This part of the post Rant over.:angry1:

Maui, HAWAII

NO QUESTION....It's a Beautiful place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there. Too many tourists....LMAO!! Rent a Mustang Convertible. I've been there many times for 10-day visits. Make sure you visit the community of Lahina and go deep sea fishing out of there. It's a BLAST and worth every penny!! Last time I went (2/2010) I caught a 140lbs Pacific Shortnose Spearfish. Had it mounted. The beaches in Maui are fantastic and the snorkeling is truely Amazing. The road to HANA takes all day and as a first timer I wouldn't recommend it. Maybe another time. Avoid the high pressure sales reps trying to convince you to partisipate in a FREE Breakfast presentation (they're trying to sell you something - condo's) in exchange for 1/2 off some of the activities etc. Forget that!! Just enjoy the warm water, the sand, and the Mai-tai's on the beach and you'll come home happy!! Enjoy!!

HIT THE DRAGSTRIP!!!!! Its in between the airport and Kehei. I hope I spelled that right. :icon_blackeye: Its at the national guard base. There are some awesome Mopars there.

Sun Screen & lots of liquids, silk shirts, Bermuda shorts & bathing suits, it's humid 80*-84* w/90%+ humidity & will probably have a light warm rain in the afternoon every day, multiple shirts & cloth changes, I highly recommend the Mai-tai's {Rum & Pineapple}, if your a Golfer take the sticks, there are some great resorts & public courses, there not cheap but what the hell you in Hawaii... Meahallo Howly {spellings?} & Aloha

I don't really have any recommendations outside of if you do any skin diving, I have heard its a great place to do it.. sounds like a great time coming.. Have a ball Jim and hope you'll do the photo thing!

I've never been to Maui... but I go to Kaua'i every year. Road to Hana is a must, from what I've heard. If I were you I'd get up early for that drive. The later you go the more dumbasses who don't know how to drive will be in front of you.

The best tips I can offer for HI in general-

Buy your own food! Don't bother eating in restaurants if you can help it- they're expensive and 9 times out of 10 not any good. Buying food in a nearby grocery and cooking in your hotel room if possible is the way to go.

If you're into fish, the poke is so incredible, and you can buy it all over the place.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poke_(Hawaii)

Don't be surprised if you get a bit of attitude from some of the locals. HI is not all sun and sand, there can be tensions between natives and haoles (white people) Do not leave anything valuable in your car when you park it. Theft can be really common depending on where you are.

That being said, I've never had a problem over there. My wife and I went to a local hole in the wall Hawaiian restaurant in the suburbs of Honolulu, all the people at the hotel warned us against going since the neighborhood wasn't the greatest. We stayed mellow and respectful and had a great time.

Have a blast! And have a few Longboard Lagers for us back in the lower 48!
