Hello All,

I am looking for some help. In my '66 I have a 4 speed transmission that is leaking gear oil from the front of the unit at the Motor. I am trying to get an opinion from this group if anyone knows a good person in the Philadelphia area that I can trust for experience with a old Mopar to do a quality job and be fair on the price. I am about 23 miles West of Philadelphia in the Norristown area. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance
Phil

Drive it on down to me, drop it off for a year. Ill get the leak fixed and make sure the rear tires turn ok!! :)

are you going to pull the tranny yourself? Or are you looking for a shop to rand r is and rebuild it? Thats a tall order, I would drop the tranny myself and send it out if you are capable, or find a basic shop to remove the tranny and reinstall it when its rebuilt, if thats the case, I would drive the car there, and take it and the tranny when you leave, then tow it back and bring the new tranny when its done..

OR buy a tranny from brewers or someone that does what he does, and sell your leaker.. http://www.brewersperformance.com/products.asp?cat=88 figure the tranny will be $1400 and yours is worth something, not sure how much maybe $400? others may know better..

Not for nothing is the only problem the front seal? Or are you having internal problems? The front seat is super easy to change a beginner can do that job with ease. But if your not comfortable then don't do it .
I have a short story some of you guys know this some don't so read it anyway s ,so years ago I was restoring a 1947 Buick super fire ball inline 8 3 on the tree really cool car anyways I was about 25 and was a bit unsure of myself, the transmission was rusted solid I looked and looked and there was no way I was getting another, one day this guy emailed me saying he had a Buick he rolled over years back and needed parts I had extras of what he needed so I sold him everything he needed so we b.s.ed awhile then he said well guess I better get back out there and get that crappie eng and trans out of it ,after a lot of begging he sold Mr the trans ,I brought it to the best trans shop in town ,well the guy scratched his head and said what do you want me to do with this . I begged and pleated he said no can't help you ,now before this I've never ever had a trans open besides to service it ,so 5 more shops later and no one would take it in . I finely got a little help from the hamb forum I used to be on the old guys kept on me said you'll never learn nothing if you font try ! They were 100% correct.I ordered all the seals and rebuild parts for it and cleaned my work bench up and started. I took my time and didn't rush I didn't make any mistakes and it looked and drove like it did in 1947.
So the point of my story is to try to encourage you to take it out and try to fix it yourself you'll be surprised how easy they are to work on. And if you can't fix it guess what no harm now foul just bring it down to the transmission shop and then have them show you "if you ask they will show you how if there not super busy"
Good luck
